The Divine Farmer's Materia Medica

This book is one of the three foundation books of Chinese medicine. The Nei Jing (Inner Classic) establishes the theoretical basis of Chinese medicine and especially of acupuncture. The Shen Nong Ben Cao laid the foundation of the study of Chinese herbs, while the Shang Han Lun (Treatise on Damage due to Cold) is the locus classicus of Chinese herbal formulas and treatment based on pattern discrimination. Translations of the Nei Jing and Shang Han Lun have long existed in English. However, till now, no translation of the Shen Nong Ben Cao has been available in English. Published as part of Blue Poppy's Great Masters Series, now all serious students and practitioners of Chinese medicine can have access to all three of the pillars of Chinese medicine. This is the Chinese materia medica from which all others have been derived.
