BAI HAO ORIENTAL BEAUTY BUG-BITTEN OOLONG

    Sale price$28.00

Bai Hao Oolong – Oriental Beauty (Bug-Bitten Tea)

Delicate yet decadent, Bai Hao Oolong, also known as Oriental Beauty or Dong Fang Mei Ren, is a naturally sweet, highly aromatic Taiwanese oolong with a fascinating origin story—one that begins with a tiny insect.

Grown without pesticides, this tea is intentionally “bug-bitten” by a small leafhopper (Jacobiasca formosana), whose bites trigger a natural oxidation in the leaf. The result is a unique chemical reaction that brings out honeyed, fruity, and floral notes not found in other teas.

This tea is traditionally hand-picked during the summer, when the insects are most active, and expertly oxidized to around 60–70%, making it closer to a black tea in character, yet retaining the elegance and complexity of an oolong.

    • Origin: Hsinchu or Miaoli County, Taiwan
    • Type: Heavily oxidized oolong
    • Other Names: Oriental Beauty, Dong Fang Mei Ren, Champagne Oolong
    • Tasting Notes: Ripe peach, honey, muscat grape, wildflower, warm spice
    • Caffeine: Moderate
    • Brewing: 1–2 tsp per cup | 90–95°C (194–203°F) | Steep 2–3 minutes (multiple infusions encouraged)

With its natural sweetness, velvety body, and signature aroma, Bai Hao Oriental Beauty is one of the most prized and romantic teas in the world—a testament to the beauty that nature, even in its imperfections, can create.
