OUR LADY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION

    Sale price$1,000.00

Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is a title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary that refers to her being conceived without original sin. This belief is a central dogma in the Roman Catholic Church and emphasizes Mary’s purity from the very first moment of her existence.

From the instant of her conception in her mother Saint Anne’s womb, Mary was preserved by God from the stain of original sin through the future merits of Jesus Christ. This singular privilege was granted to her because she was chosen to be the Mother of the Savior.

The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is celebrated each year on December 8, and it is a Holy Day of Obligation in many Catholic countries.

Our Lady under this title is the patroness of the United States of America, the Philippines, and many dioceses and institutions around the world. She is also invoked for protection, purity, and grace.

In art, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is typically depicted in a white or blue robe, often standing on a crescent moon, crushing a serpent under her feet, and surrounded by a crown of twelve stars—symbols taken from the Book of Revelation (12:1) and traditional Marian iconography.

    16”x20” acrylic on wood.

    Prayerfully made by Stephen Hotchkiss.
